Ernst & Young, Onespace project
Formway was selected by Ernst & Young in 2003 to supply workstations and storage for their relocation to new premises in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide under their banner of OneSpace.
To achieve more specific results for Ernst & Young a design phase was initiated to modify the prototype desk. Formway Design had already provided a solution that met most of the workstation needs through the tendering and prototype phase of the selection process.
However further refinement was sought for storage and screen solutions. The aims of the design phase were to enhance the aesthetic by choice of materials, provide additional functionality and explore churn and maintenance options.
A panel from Ernst & Young, Paragon Project Management, Multiplex and Formway was established to evaluate design enhancements while acknowledging the demands of manufacturing and financial constraints with the agreed aesthetics.
The successful design of the workstation solution was derived from 3 simple ingredients.
- Communication between Ernst & Young, Paragon, Geyer and Formway. This allowed all parties to openly explore solutions and challenges faced in design development
- Development time to explore solutions. With increased development time many available options could be studied, rather than needing to commit to first run samples
- Understanding the design brief and asking is there a better way. In this manner the design direction could be challenged and other alternatives considered.
Through this process, Formway developed completely new products in a compressed time frame to meet the needs of the design brief. The results were a height adjustable screen with multiple finishes, a more cost effective method of height adjustment groove adjust, an in-desk power and data module and a custom low storage unit.
